The question, am I enough is a daily taunt. Social media, window shopping, socializing with friends, family, magazines, movies or even just driving down the street can remind you otherwise. The world around us has no problem reminding us of our flaws. Telling us what we need improvised to achieve that next level of bliss or winsomeness.
Too fat. Too skinny. Too short. Too tall. Too shy. Too loud. Unlovable. Unwanted. Unintelligent. In order to be beautiful you must look or become a certain way to attain it. In order to have people admire you, you must act in this way. In order to be successful you must have it all together.
The truth is…
It is all a lie…
As hard as it is to believe we are already everything we need to be. We do not need to attain anything because-we are enough.
Struggling with an eating disorder for 7 years and even in remission for 6 the mindset of enough continues to be a daily battle for adequacy. The only way to combat Satan’s lies are by continually speaking God’s truths.
If you tell a lie long enough, over and over again, eventually you can fool yourself into believing it. The truth is the same way, only harder to believe, in time it does become easier, but we can only do it with God’s help.
Satan says: I am unlovable.
God says: You are my beloved; “I have loved you with an everlasting love; I have drawn you with an everlasting kindness.”- Jeremiah 31:3 (NIV)
We are God’s dearly loved and he reminds us all throughout scripture just how much he truly does love us. Including sending his son Jesus.
Satan says: You are an like an orphan. Alone with no one who cares about you.
God says: You are my child and you are never alone.
“See what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are! The reason the world does not know us is that it did not know him”. -1 John 3:1 (NIV).
“The Lord himself goes before you and will be with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged”. -Deuteronomy 31:8 (NIV).
God is the perfect father. He will never abandon us, for we are his children.
Satan says: You are unforgivable, dirty, disgusting.
God says: You are forgiven and I have washed you white as snow.
“”He himself bore our sins” in his body on the cross, so that we might die to sins and live for righteousness; “by his wounds you have been healed”‘. – 1 Peter 2:24 (NIV).
“…Though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they are crimson, they shall be like wool”. – Isaiah 1:18 (NIV).
No matter what has happened in our past, present, or even in our future-it does not define us. When we ask for forgiveness-God forgives. There are no strings attached. No hoops to jump through. No level we must achieve. It is is gift– and a gift is given freely. If the God of creation can forgive us so easily, we must learn to forgive ourselves as well.
Satan says: You are worthless. You will never be good enough.
God says: You are my masterpiece-wonderfully made, exactly the way I wanted you.
“For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them”. -Ephesians 2:10 (NKJV).
“I will praise You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made; Marvelous are Your works, And that my soul knows very well”. -Psalms 139:14 (NKJV).
Never doubt your worth or your value. God gave up his only son for you. Jesus died for you. Just like a real life fairy tale. God choose you and until you breathe your last breath you are here for a reason and have a purpose to fulfill.
” God choose you and until you breathe your last breath you are here for a reason and have a purpose to fulfill.”-C.m.
Satan says: There is nothing special about you.
God says: You are set apart. You please me and I delight in you.
“But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for his own possession, that you may proclaim the excellencies of him who called you out of the darkness into his marvelous light.” -1 Peter 2:9 (ESV).
“For we are a pleasing aroma of Christ among those who are being saved and those who are perishing”. – 2 Corinthians 2:15 (NIV).
“The Lord your God is with you, the Mighty Warrior who saves. He will take great delight in you; in his love he will no longer rebuke you, but will rejoice over you with singing”. -Zephaniah 3:17 (NIV).
No matter the lies Satan tells us, we can combat every single one with God’s truth. If we are enough for God we must learn to trust him, to hang on to his words and place confidence in them. Satan wants to break you, he knows the truth and the power you have in Christ and he knows he is powerless. If he can make you believe otherwise you will become nonthreatening.
You are a daughter of the King. Fearfully and wonderfully made. Valuable. Beautiful.
You are enough.
Thank you for every blessing in our lives. We pray you would protect our minds and our hearts from the enemy. Help us to know just how much you love us. That we are exactly the way you want us. Help us to know our worth, beauty and value in you and you alone. Help us to only turn to you for validation and no where else. Please instill your truths in us Lord. Silence the lies and be the only voice we hear. Help us to remember we are enough. In your name we pray.
lots of love,
